GreatPing

FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most about GreatPing.

Can I approve a permission from my phone?

No, and that is deliberate. GreatPing tells you that an agent waits and where; you answer in the agent, on the computer. An approval should come from the place where you can see what will run. Questions you send yourself, with greatping ask or an agent's ask_user tool, are answered on the phone.

Will my phone ring while I am at the keyboard?

Usually not. While the computer is in use, an agent's alert waits 30 seconds first; if you answer the prompt in that time, your phone never hears about it. Away from the computer for two minutes, it rings at once. You can change the delay per computer: see Computers.

Does GreatPing see my code or prompts?

No. An agent's alert carries only the agent's name and the reason it waits. Questions, answers and project names you choose to send are end-to-end encrypted to your own devices. See What GreatPing can see.

Which agents does it work with?

Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi and Cursor are set up by greatping setup. Apps built on the same agents, such as T3 Code with Claude Code, use the same hooks. Any agent that supports MCP can use GreatPing's tools, and any script can use greatping notify, ask and run. See Agents.

Does it work over SSH or on a server?

Yes. Install the command line tool on the machine where the agent runs and pair it like any other computer. It needs to reach api.greatping.com over HTTPS.

Can I use it on several computers?

Yes, as many as you like. Each one is paired with greatping login and appears in the app. With more than one, the inbox lets you filter by computer.

Can two people share a computer's alerts?

Each person has their own account. To have both notified by one machine, it would have to be paired with both accounts, which GreatPing does not support today. Within one account, any number of phones and tablets can share a computer's alerts.

Do I need an account, an email or a password?

No. Your first device creates the account, and later devices join it. See Your account.

What happens if I lose my phone?

If you have another device in the account, remove the lost one from there. If you lose every device, start a new account on a new phone and pair your computers again. There is no recovery by email, because there is no email.

Does it work with Do Not Disturb or a Focus?

On iPhone and iPad, reminders can break through a Focus as Time Sensitive notifications, if you allow them. Within GreatPing you can also set quiet hours, pause a device or a computer, and choose which alert types notify you. See Notification settings.

Does it drain the battery?

No. Notifications arrive through Apple's and Google's push services, like any other app's, and the app does very little in the background. Only while it is open does it keep a connection to show changes as they happen.

How much does it cost?

GreatPing is free during private testing. Pricing after that has not been decided.

Is it open source?

The command line tool is, under the MIT license: github.com/nobottomline/greatping. You can read exactly what it sends.

How do I uninstall it?

On the computer, greatping uninstall removes the agent integrations, the pairing and its local data, and then the package itself. greatping uninstall --dry-run shows what it would remove. In the app, Settings › Sign Out or Delete Account.
