Quick start

You need a computer with Node.js 22.20 or later and the GreatPing app on a phone or tablet.

1. Install the command line toolCopy Anchor Link

Check the result with greatping --version. Later, greatping update shows the update command for the manager you used.

2. Pair this computerCopy Anchor Link

Open the GreatPing app. If this is your first device, it creates your account; there is no email or password. Then run:

greatping login

The command shows a QR code and a code such as K7PD-M4XQ. Scan the QR code in the app, or type the code. The app shows which computer asked, from where, and when. Approve it only if it is the computer in front of you.

The first half of the code finds the pairing on the service. The second half never leaves the computer and your phone: both sides use it to prove they hold the same code before any keys are trusted. A mistyped code ends the pairing on both sides and nothing is added.

The computer is named the way the operating system names it, for example "Alex's MacBook Pro". Use --name to choose another name.

3. Connect your agentsCopy Anchor Link

Setup finds Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi and Cursor on this computer and lets you choose which of them alert you. It also offers the GreatPing skill, which lets you ask an agent in plain words: "ping me when the tests pass", or "no pings for an hour".

Codex runs new hooks only after you trust them: open /hooks in Codex once.

greatping test reports, for each device, whether Apple or Google accepted the notification. That is as far as a server can know, so look at the phone too.
