Notification settings
Choose which alerts notify this device and when, pause it, and set quiet hours.
Settings › Notifications controls how this device notifies you. Every device has its own settings: your phone can stay quiet at night while your tablet does not. Whatever a device does not notify you about still appears in its inbox.
Which devices are alerted for which computer, and how long a computer waits, are set on the computer's screen, not here. See Computers.
Notifications
The first row shows whether this device can notify you, and opens the system settings for sounds, banners and the Lock Screen. If notifications are off, tap it to turn them on.
On Android, GreatPing also has its own notification channels in the system settings: Decisions, Finished turns, Questions and notices and Security notices. You can give each its own sound or importance there.
Pause Notifications
Silence this device for 1, 3, 8 or 24 hours, or until tomorrow morning (the end of your quiet hours, or 8:00 without them). While paused:
- alerts still appear in the inbox;
- the inbox shows Notifications paused with a Resume button;
- security notices, such as a new device joining your account, still notify you;
- your other devices are not affected. If this device was the only one set to First for a computer, GreatPing tells you which computers then have no device to notify about approvals.
The Pause for 1 Hour button on a message notification does the same for an hour. To silence a computer on every device instead, pause the computer: see Computers.
Alert types
Turn off types you do not want to be notified about on this device. They still appear in the inbox.
| Type | Notifies you when |
|---|---|
| Decisions | An agent waits for your approval or answer on the computer. |
| Finished Turns | An agent finished and waits for your next message. |
| Questions | A question you can answer in GreatPing arrives. |
| Notices | An agent or a script sends you a message. |
A common setup: a phone with everything on, and a tablet with only Decisions and Questions.
Quiet hours
Turn on Quiet Hours to stop notifications every night. Choose From (between 19:00 and 1:00) and Until (between 5:00 and 10:00); the default is 22:00 to 7:00. Quiet hours follow this device's time zone.
Allow Decisions lets an agent waiting for your approval or answer still notify you during quiet hours. Finished turns and messages wait in the inbox until morning.
When a device in quiet hours is set to First for a computer, your Standard devices are notified at once instead of waiting for it.
Content
Project Names shows the project in notifications, for example "Codex · billing-api". Turn it off to keep project names off this device's Lock Screen; the inbox always shows them. This only matters when the computer sends project names at all: see Project labels.
Break Through Focus
On iPhone and iPad, Break Through Focus sends reminders as Time Sensitive notifications, so they reach you while a Focus such as Do Not Disturb or Sleep is on. Allow Time Sensitive Notifications for GreatPing in the system settings for it to work. Only reminders use it: the first notification for an alert respects your Focus.
Test
To check that notifications reach a device, open it in Settings › Devices and tap Send Test Notification. It reports whether Apple or Google accepted the notification; look at the device to see that it arrived. From a computer, greatping test does the same for every device.
