Cursor
How GreatPing alerts you when Cursor's agent finishes, and how to install the local plugin.
Preview
The Cursor plugin is installed locally by the command line tool. It is not listed in the Cursor Marketplace yet.
Set up
greatping setup cursorReload Cursor, then check Customize for the GreatPing plugin, skill and MCP server. If your organization restricts local plugins, an administrator has to allow them.
What alerts you
| Moment | Alert | Clears when |
|---|---|---|
| The agent completed its turn | Finished its turn | You send your next message, or the session ends |
Turns that fail or that you stop do not alert you. Completion alerts are on by default; greatping setup cursor --no-finished turns them off.
Why not questions or approvals?
Cursor does not offer a reliable signal that its agent is waiting for you to answer or approve. GreatPing does not guess from other events, so it alerts only when the turn completes. Ask the agent in plain words, "ping me if you need me", and it uses GreatPing's tools. See Ask in plain words.
What it reads
Only that a session started, that you sent a prompt, and that a turn stopped. Not your prompt, the agent's output, your files or your Cursor account.
Check
greatping doctorIt checks that the plugin files are in place. Whether Cursor loaded them, check in Customize.
Remove
greatping setup cursor --removeYour own Cursor hooks and MCP servers are kept, and the computer stays paired.
